Planning a holiday in the North York Moors and want to bring your dog? Look no further! The Long Barn provides dog-friendly accommodation North York Moors that both you and your furry friend will love.

The Long Barn welcomes canine companions and offers the perfect base for exploring the North York Moors. This region is a dog’s dream, with varied landscapes, from coastal stretches where they can feel the wind in their fur, to fascinating historic sites. Plus, many local pubs and cafes welcome four-legged guests.

We provide more than just a place to stay – we want your dog to feel pampered! Your furry friend will receive their own welcome pack containing essentials like towels, tasty treats, and eco-friendly waste bags. A water bowl is also provided for their arrival, perfect for a long drink after their journey.

The enclosed courtyard garden, secured by a gate over the cattle grid, offers a safe, off-lead area where they can zoom about and play. For dogs that enjoy a splash, the River Seven is a short walk away – think muddy paws and happy barks. You’ll find a tap and brushes at the front door for easy clean-up. Along with a warm tiled boot room that they can dry out in.

While we don’t currently have our own dogs (yet!), we’ve consulted local dog owners – the real experts – to draw up a list of recommended walks, available in our welcome guide. These walks offer varied terrain and scenery, perfect for every pup’s preferences.

Just a heads-up: dogs must be kept on a lead in Appleton le Moors village due to the free-roaming sheep. You’ll bump into lots of local dog owners when you do a circuit through the village.

The North York Moors National Park website offers further inspiration for dog-friendly adventures, including woodland areas where dogs can be off-lead and stile-free routes. Our digital welcome guide also contains links to dog-friendly beaches, attractions, pubs, cafes, and local suppliers of doggy goodies.

The local pub, The Moors Inn, warmly welcomes dogs and always has special treats behind the bar. They are also welcome in the bar areas of the Fox and Hounds in Sinnington. And most recently, the Blacksmiths Arms in Lastingham now welcomes dogs in their “side bar”.  The ultimate place for dogs must be the Abbey Inn in Byland where dogs are welcomed throughout. They’ve even created their own Abbey Inn dog biscuits.

We typically accommodate a maximum of 3-4 dogs, depending on breed. If you’re dreaming of a dog-friendly escape to The Long Barn, please review our doggy rules on our website or contact us directly. As you’d expect, dogs can’t be left in the barn “home alone”. However, we do have a recommended dog sitter if you decide you want a night out without them.

We’re happy to answer any questions and help you plan the paw-fect getaway!

Sorry, we couldn’t resist the pun..
