The Long Barn was created for bringing people together.
Whether it’s a milestone birthday, a family gathering, a reunion with friends or simply an excuse to spend time together, there is something special about sharing a house where everyone can relax under one roof.
With seven en-suite bedrooms, nobody draws the short straw when rooms are being allocated. The dining room seats all 14 guests around one table, making long meals and celebrations easy. The large living room, West Barn and south-facing courtyard mean there is plenty of space to spend time together, while still allowing everyone to find their own corner when they want to.
Some groups spend their days exploring the North York Moors, visiting the coast or discovering nearby market towns. Others settle into a slower rhythm, enjoying walks from the door, time in the courtyard and meals together that seem to last a little longer than planned.
After welcoming guests for more than a decade, one thing remains true. The stays people remember most are rarely about how much they managed to fit in. They are about the conversations, laughter and memories made along the way.

Space to relax together
The Long Barn gives groups plenty of opportunities to spend time together, without feeling that everyone has to be doing the same thing all day.
At the heart of the house is the dining room, where all 14 guests can gather around one table. It is often where the day begins with breakfast and where conversations continue long after dinner has finished.
The large living room provides comfortable seating for everyone, making it easy to enjoy a film, a board game or simply catch up with family and friends. On cooler evenings, the log burner adds an extra layer of warmth and atmosphere. A large Smart TV with Sky is available for those who fancy a film night or want to catch up with a favourite programme.
For those looking for a little more space, the West Barn offers a completely different environment. Some groups use it for yoga or wellness retreats, while others turn it into the venue for table tennis tournaments and family competitions. A projector, large screen and sound system also make it ideal for film nights, presentations, workshops and celebrations.
Outside, the south-facing courtyard provides another place to gather. Morning coffee, long lunches, summer barbecues and evenings under the stars all have a habit of taking place here.
One of the things guests appreciate most is that everyone can be together when they want to be, while still having plenty of room to find a quiet corner of their own.
Seven en-suite bedrooms
Each of the seven generous en suite bedrooms all have their own individual character in keeping with the barn, restful and contemporary. There is constant hot water and heating supplied from the site’s biomass boiler.
Two of the en suite bedrooms are on the ground floor if you don’t fancy the stairs at the end of the day. We can tailor the bedrooms to your needs; Bedrooms 1, 4, and 5 are super kings which can be split into twins. All other bedrooms have fixed king size beds.

Courtyard
Relax in the tranquil south-facing courtyard garden, a perfect spot to gather on a sunny day. Cook an alfresco meal on the massive Weber gas BBQ and gather around the huge oak table. Pick fresh herbs from the garden to complement your meal. Look out for garden wildlife; the courtyard is planted with many species which attract bees and butterflies, which in turn attract a real variety of birds.
On clear moonless nights, the stars can be truly spectacular; you may well see the Milky Way. Or even the Northern Lights if you are very lucky.
There is plenty of space to park in the courtyard, and the cattle grid means you don’t have to jump in and out of the car to shut the gate (and also protects the garden from marauding sheep). And the gate can be closed to make the garden completely enclosed for dogs.
