Since opening in 2015, we’ve lost count of the number of big celebrations that have taken place at the Long Barn.

There have been lots of birthdays with a “0” in them . As well as anniversaries and reunions. We’ve had visitors here in their nineties and some just a few weeks old.

We appreciate the pressure if you are the person who is doing the organising. Just agreeing the dates is hard enough, never mind where to stay. You finally settle on the date and the Long Barn is booked.

In our experience, the immediate reaction is “phew, we’re sorted and I can relax”. But then the countdown to the celebration starts. And this can mean that the pressure begins.

The good news is that we’re here to help.

We’ve organised gatherings ourselves in the Long Barn for our own friends and family. So we know first hand what it can involve.

We’ve also supported guests with ideas and suggestions of local businesses to use, and what to organise. We can help as much or as little as you need.

Dan At the Dinner Party by Dan Graham

Back in 2020, we wrote a blog on our top 10 tips for planning the perfect stay away with friends and family.

We think these are just as relevant now.

But if it’s a really special celebration we’d suggest considering the following:

  • Eating In Think about booking an external caterer. From a dinner party to a catered afternoon tea, this can make your celebrations really special. It can be a special dinner party with an in house chef who will cook, serve and clear everything away. Another option is a prepared meal delivered to you which just needs warming up. We have a number of local people we recommend to suit all budgets.
  • Book a special meal out The area has some fantastic places to eat out. From our local village pub just minutes walk away to the Star in Harome, a Michelin star restaurant. We also have a number of terrific local restaurants who can also cater for your group. Check out this recent blog for our latest recommendation.
  • Decorations We can recommend local businesses who can provide everything from birthday cake, balloons, party decorations, flowers etc.
  • Activities Just being together with walks from the door may be perfect for your group. Some groups are keen to do some activities. Whether it’s a mindful yoga session, the best spa locally, a history walk of the visit or an art workshop, we can help you arrange it.

Let us know when you book if there is anything that you are considering, and our little black book of recommended contacts is all yours to consider. Our one big piece of advice is book ahead as the best places book up early.

You’ll find lots of information in our digital welcome guide which we continually update.

We want you to be able to concentrate on making memories, not worrying about the organisation. After all, recent years have made us all appreciate just how precious these are.
