We love living in the North York Moors National Park and want all our guests to experience this wonderful place to its full. Staying self-catering in the Long Barn, means that you can chose exactly where you want to explore and spend your time. But with so much choice, it can be overwhelming. It can be easy to default to the busiest touristy spots. And so, miss out on some of the very best hidden gems and places to go.

Earlier this year, we were chosen along with a small group of other local businesses to become Champions for the North York Moors. This means we work closely with the National Parks team to spread the word about what makes the North York Moors so special.

We 100% support the ethos of enjoying the North York Moors as well as looking after it.

As part of this, we are accredited in all the North York Moors friendly schemes – –Β cycling,Β dark skies,Β natureΒ andΒ walking. Our goal is to go the extra mile to support visitors who want to take part in these activities.

We are constantly looking out for hidden gems, insider tips and recommendations to share with our guests. It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it! And if you follow us on our social media, you’ll see us share all sorts of information to make your visit as special as possible.

Whether it’s an off the beaten track walk, a hidden gem of a village to visit, or the best place for cake, we will keep making sure we continually update our list of recommendations.

We also share lots of information on our weekly blogs. We are often contacted by people who aren’t staying with us but would like more information about a particular post. Which we are more than happy to do. It’s all part of being a North York Moors Champion.

We also support making the North York Moors as accessible as possible. We are proud to work with Dementia Adventure who have run 9 supported adventures from the Long Barn. This means those living with dementia and their loved ones can experience 5 days of unwinding and exploring the local area.

As champions, we are also aware of our environmental impact and look at all we can do to be sustainable. Sometimes it’s the big stuff like our biomass boiler. And sometimes the smaller things. Read more about our approach to sustainability here.

Whether staying at the Long Barn, or visiting the North Moors independently, we hope that you love it as much as we do. And don’t hesitate to get in touch if there is anything we can help you with. Whether you are staying at the Long Barn, or not.Β
