Easter Activities
The last few days have felt like spring. Hurrah!
That said, we canβt quite believe that it is Easter this weekend.
Easter is a lovely time to visit the Long Barn. We tend to book up quickly so if you are interested in staying for Easter in 2025, don’t leave it too long. We already have 4 dates booked in April 2025, but the weekend of 20th April is still currently available. As Easter falls later in 2025, the clocks will have changed to summer time. So a perfect time to visit with friends and family.
Thereβs lots to do in the North York Moors this Easter.Β Here are some of our recommendations.
Daffodil Walk
Weβd never seen wild daffodils growing until we moved to Appleton. The famous place to walk to see the daffodils is in Farndale. The pluses are that itβs a very accessible stroll with the Daffy CafΓ©, a popular place to stop for a break. Or check out the lovely Farndale Store. The minus is that it is very popular, and can get very busy.
Our recommendation is the walk from the door down through the woods from the Long Barn. Hell Bank Woods are a hidden gem and the daffodils are looking spectacular this year. We have both digital and paper maps in the Long Barn for you to use to explore this lovely walk.
Easter Lambs
The lambs are starting to arrive in the North York Moors; our neighbours in Spaunton are busy with lambing at the moment. The lambs on the common arrive slightly later in the year. If you stay with us, weβll let you know the best places to see some spring lambs.
North Yorkshire Moors Railway
Steam trains, trails, craft sessions and story telling; there is lots to do with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. They now even have a Station Stories app that you can download that lets you explores the history of Goathland and Grosmount stations.
Easter Egg Hunt
Lots of places have easter egg trails. Whitby Abbey have an Easter Adventure Quest. Β Castle Howard have an Easter animal trail with a chocolatey prize. And Scampston gardens have a Easter bunny trail. The Easter bunny is clearly busy, as heβs also putting an appearance in at Helmsley Walled Garden. Β Both the North York Moors centres at Danby and Sutton Bank have lots of easter activities on for children.
Chocolate Treats
If you are a regular reader of our blogs, youβll know that we love Florian Poirot. We highly recommend a visit to his shop in Malton where youβll find Easter treats like such as his chocolate eggs and limited edition macarons.
Thirsk Yarn Bombers
Not exactly Easter, but we love the Thirsk Yarn Bombers latest display with the theme of βHOLIDAYSβ. Worth a stop off in this market town to admire their creativity and knitting skills.
We hope that you have a very happy Easter where ever you are spending it.Β
