Planning a trip with a large group is one thing. Planning one where the dogs are just as welcome is another.
At the Long Barn, we see time and again that the best stays are the ones where no one gets left behind. That includes the dogs.
If you are looking for a dog friendly large group stay in North Yorkshire, here is what that really looks like in practice.
Space for Everyone, Including the Dogs

When you arrive, there is no juggling rooms or working out who gets the best space. All seven bedrooms are en suite, so everyone has their own corner to retreat to.
Downstairs is where groups naturally come together. The large kitchen, dining space and living room make it easy to spend time together without feeling crowded.
For dogs, it means they can settle quickly. There is space to stretch out, a warm spot by the fire, and always someone nearby.
We welcome up to four dogs. On arrival, there is a simple doggy hamper with treats, towels and poo bags ready for you. At the front door, you will find a brush and water to clean muddy paws after a walk.
We do ask that dogs stay off the furniture, but they are very much part of your stay and are welcome to sleep in the bedrooms with you.
Walks From the Door (Without the Hassle)
One of the simplest things makes the biggest difference.
You can step outside and start walking straight away.
Across fields, along bridleways and into woodland. The kind of routes where dogs can properly explore and you do not have to think too much about logistics.
If you prefer to avoid stiles, we can point you towards suitable routes from the door. The North York Moors National Park Authority also has a helpful guide to stile free walks across the area.
A favourite is the circular walk to Sinnington, which combines open countryside with a relaxed pub stop before heading back.
You will often meet local villagers out walking their own dogs along the lanes and paths around Appleton. It adds to the feel of being properly settled into the village rather than just visiting.
Dogs as Part of the Celebration

Some of the best moments we see involve the dogs.
Curled up nearby during long dinners. Sitting patiently as a cake comes out. Racing around the courtyard while everyone gathers outside with a drink.
For many groups, the dogs are part of the reason for getting together in the first place.
We have had birthday weekends, family reunions and special occasions where the dogs are simply part of it all. No compromises needed.
Eating Out With Dogs
It is not just the barn that works well.
The village pub, Moors Inn, is a short walk away and welcomes dogs, making it an easy option for a relaxed meal out.
More widely, the North York Moors is well set up for dog owners, with many pubs and cafés happy to accommodate them.
Practical Details That Make It Easy
A dog friendly stay only works if it is genuinely straightforward.
At the Long Barn, that means:
- Space to dry off and clean up after walks
- Easy access in and out for dogs and people
- A layout that works for groups rather than just couples
- Support if you need it during your stay
We do ask that dogs are not left alone in the barn. If you are planning a day out that is not suitable for them, we can help arrange a trusted local dog sitter.
A Place That Works for the Whole Group
Finding somewhere that suits a large group is not always straightforward.
Add dogs into the mix and the options narrow quickly.
That is why many of our guests come back again. Once you find somewhere that works for everyone, you tend to hold onto it.
If you are planning a dog friendly large group stay in North Yorkshire, the Long Barn is set up to make it feel easy from the moment you arrive.
