Will it feel right when you arrive at the Long Barn?
Will there be enough space?
Will everyone be comfortable?
We’ve been there ourselves when organising a large gathering. You want it to feel right for everyone, especially with a mix of ages and expectations.
First impressions matter

Two recent first-time groups answered those questions better than we ever could.
One family arrived spanning four generations, including newborn twin girls, and described their stay as “very special”. They picked out the things that matter most when planning a group trip. A well-equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and a dining space where everyone could come together easily. Even the dogs settled straight in. They also mentioned how much they enjoyed the welcome hamper.
Another group came to celebrate a 70th birthday at the Long Barn. Their first reaction on arrival was simply “OMG, OMG, wow”. They went on to describe a weekend filled with fun, laughter, games, and time spent together across all ages, from grandparents to young children.
Designed with groups in mind

When we renovated the Long Barn, we spoke to a lot of people about what works and what doesn’t in a large group stay. Small details came up again and again. Beds with ends that don’t suit taller guests. Not enough dishwasher space. Too few plates, glasses or serving dishes.
We tried to think carefully about those details at every stage and, where possible, go a little further. The aim was to create a space that works naturally for groups. Seven en-suite bedrooms so there is no short straw. Generous shared spaces that make it easy to spend time together.
What stands out from both of these stays is how easily groups find their rhythm here.
People spread out when they want to, then come back together when it matters. The Long Barn space supports both without needing to think about it.
If you are planning a group stay in the North York Moors and weighing up options, those first impressions matter.
These are from people who didn’t know what to expect.
And who left already thinking about coming back.
