Here are five of our top picks for June events:

3. North Yorkshire Open Studios

Saturday, June 7th – Sunday, June 8th & Saturday, June 14th – Sunday, June 15th, 2025

We hadn’t appreciated until we moved here, the rich creative comumnity of artists within the North York Moors. These two weekends are a fabulous opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant arts scene of the area. Artists and makers across the region are opening their studio doors to the public. This unique event offers a chance to meet talented creatives, peek into their workspaces, and purchase original artwork inspired by the stunning local landscapes and rich heritage.

Some of our favourite local artists will be opening their studios:

  • Angela Cole who makes the most wonderful willow baskets
  • Justine Warner – we love Justine’s mixed media and fabric works, inspired by the local countryside.
  • Gillies Jones Glass who makes exquisite glass vases and objects in Rosedale Abbey.
  • Ione Harrison – we love her atmospheric water colours. Ione is also available to run art classes for Long Barn guests.

Check out the North Yorkshire Open Studios web site. They have a great interactive map with locations and links to artists web sites, where you can see their work.

4. Annual Diesel Gala – North Yorkshire Moors Railway (Pickering to Whitby)

A highlight for railway enthusiasts, the Annual Diesel Gala showcases an impressive lineup of heritage diesel locomotives. Enjoy the sights and sounds of these powerful engines as they cross the breathtaking scenery of the North York Moors National Park on this historic railway line.

Either buy a ticket to tide, or set off to one of the North York Moors stations to see the trains pass through. Grosmount and Goathland are great spots for a day out.

5. Kirkbymoorside In Bloom Open Gardens

Jackie loves an open garden, and there are a number this month. Kirkbymoorside is the closest to us, and a number of gardens open their gates to visitors. Tea and homemade cake will be served. And the famous Kirkbymoorside Brass Band will be performing on the day.

Later in the month, Pickering will also be holding their own Open Gardens event on June 21st. You can find additional open garden dates across the UK here.
