There have been so many big birthdays being celebrated this year at the Long Barn.  

So, we thought we’d suggest a few ideas on ways you can indulge yourself when dining in. Self-catering doesn’t mean that you must do it all. We have some fantastic local catering businesses, working with the very best of local Yorkshire produce.

For a special dinner party, we’d recommend Dan Graham, an award winning local chef whose At the Dinner Party. Dan will collaborate with you to create a bespoke menu featuring dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. Check out some of his past menu’s here but remember that these are just ideas to whet your appetite. Dan can also provide a tasting menu for an extra special dinner or incorporate a cooking demonstration/lesson.

And by providing your own wine and drink, you are getting top class restaurant food to eat in at a great price. If you are interested in supporting another local company, Helmsley Wines has a fantastic range and can delivery to the Long Barn free of charge. We’d recommend chatting to Mal the owner whose knowledge of wine is encyclopaedic (not all of the wines they carry in the shop are online)

Or why not host a cocktail and canape party? With creative bites supplied by Dan, you can book a professional mixologist to cater for you. We’ve heard good things about Fix the Mix  who can handcraft delicious cocktails for your party. You can even arrange for a cocktail making lesson for your group.

We’ve also had guests organise an afternoon tea for a perfect birthday celebration. There are lots of local bakeries and caterers that we can recommend to you from Simply Delicious to The Old School House Deli and Bakery . Check out the amazing birthday cake that The Old School House made for local tv star Angus Ashworth of Ryedale Auctioneers.

So far most guests prefer to bbq themselves on our massive gas Webber BBQ. But if you fancy a hog roast, or something fancier with someone else taking all the heat, then let us know.
