We first blogged about the West Barn in 2020, describing it as the “best kept secret” of the Long Barn.
We believe it was built before the Long Barn. If you look up at the beams you can see that some are reclaimed beams from even older buildings.
If you book the Long Barn, the West Barn is exclusively yours to use. It’s set up as a games room with table football and table tennis. It has a projector for watching movies or playing games on the Sony PS4. You can also play music as it is connected to the Long Barn Sonos sound system.
So big and small kids have plenty of space to run around in and let off some steam, leaving the grown ups to relax in the Long Barn.
The big glass doors mean you can open it up to the courtyard on hot summer days. In the winter, the underfloor heating means that it is warm and toasty.
Outside the downstairs cloakroom, you’ll find the little honesty dresser. Along with selling cards and produce from local businesses, we have also stocked a few essential toiletries in case you’ve forgotten something.
We also have our bike kit for any cyclists; the West Barn is also the place we recommend you store your bikes if you stay. We are accredited Cycling Friendly by the North York Moors National Park.
We have space to clear the West Barn completely if you want the space empty. We’ve hosted over a dozen yoga retreats over the years. The combination of natural light, underfloor heating and plenty of wall space makes it a perfect spot for yoga. In fact, in the winter months if the barn is empty mid-week, Jackie’s yoga class uses it. It’s a lot warmer than the village hall.
Upstairs on the mezzanine area, we’ve created a little lounge space with comfy seating and a small library of books.
The West Barn has hosted all sorts of activity from corporate away days to yoga retreats to a Christmas concert for guests.
We can also help arrange your own personalised activities. It’s a great place for a water colour art class or a tailored yoga/mindfulness session.
