When we decided to renovate Town End Farm and set up the Long Barn as a holiday let we knew the space would be perfect for big family gatherings. Now, almost 11 years later, we think it’s the perfect spot for all sorts of get-togethers, thanks to how it’s set up and also some lucky accidents. And for the past eight years, we’ve been excited to welcome families, both new and returning to the barn.

So, why does it work so well?

Let’s start with how much space there is. The Long Barn is really long, hence the name. It’s got lots of room inside, so even huge families or groups can all spend time together without feeling crowded. No matter if it’s grandparents, parents, or kids, everyone can have their own spot while still being close together. It really does have something for every age. It may sleep 14 but it is a generous space for more for your celebration.

And the Long Barn has a cozy feel that makes it feel like a second home. With seven big bedrooms, each with its own ensuite and smart TV, everyone can have their own space. We’ve even got a mix of baths and showers, so you can pick what you like best. No queues for the bathroom.

Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, making them easy to get to. And bedrooms spread out along the length of the barn, so you can have a quiet spot if you need it. Plus, we’ve got travel cots and high chairs for the little ones.

But it’s not just about sleeping. The barn has great places for everyone to be together in. The living room is big enough for movie nights or game competitions. And the vaulted dining room is perfect for family meals or playing games together. The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a feast, and we can even recommend local chefs if you’d rather not cook. Whether it’s a tasty family supper to heat up when you arrive or a private chef cooking a special dinner, we have lots of options to make your stay stress free and relaxing.

There’s also the West Barn, which is a fabulous space. With underfloor heating, table football, table tennis and a big screen for movie nights, it gives a separate space for people to have fun in And outside, there’s a south facing enclosed courtyard garden with a huge oak table for BBQs on the Weber gas bbq.

Beyond what’s inside, there are other reasons why the barns are great for big family gatherings. The medieval village of Appleton Le Moors is a gem; we feel very luck to live here. Many of our guests book a meal at our local pub the Moors Inn; you can book the snug as a private dining room that seats 14 just for your party. The food is delicious, and you’ll be sure of a warm Yorkshire welcome.

The surrounding area offers masses of activities to suit every taste. Nature lovers can explore the North York Moors National Park with walks from the door. While history buffs can visit the quaint villages and ancient landmarks that dot the landscape. We can even arrange your own personal history tour of the village. And for the more adventurous types, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and even riding the zip line in nearby Dalby Forest. There’s even the coast to explore with sandy beaches, surfing and fossil hunting. Not to mention the British tradition of fish and chips.

At the end of the day, staying at the Long Barn is all about making memories with your family and friends. Whether you’re relaxing inside or exploring outside, we hope your time here is filled with fun and laughter that you’ll remember for years to come.
